“Fighters of the Body” - 07.10.2017

Department of Anatomy, organized a guest lecture on “Fighters of the Body” for I & II year students of BDS at Decennial Hall on 7th October 2017. The Speaker for the lecture was Dr. D. Kesavi, who is presently working as a Professor in Department of Anatomy, Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai.

Mrs. M.S. Thenmozhi, HOD, Department of Anatomy introduced the speaker and the topic of the lecture to the students.

In his lecture Dr. Kesavi discussed about Antibodies, Antigens & their types, Types of Lymphocytes and its function. She also explained about various Lymphoid organs their location & Histology using Pictures and a good power point presentation.

Mr. K.Yuvaraj Babu, Assistant Professor, Department of Anatomy gave the Vote of Thanks. Dr. Kesavi was felicited by Mrs. Thenmozhi for giving the Guest Lecture.

 
 

“Current Concepts in Clinical Anatomy of Thyroid Gland with its Intriguing Anatomical Basis for Dentistry” - 27.04.2018

Department of Anatomy, has organized a CDE program on “Current Concepts in Clinical Anatomy of Thyroid Gland with its Intriguing Anatomical Basis for Dentistry” for I year BDS students in Anatomy Lecture Hall on 27th April 2018 at 10.00am. The Speaker for the Guest lecture was Dr. C. S. Janaki, Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy, Aasan Memorial Dental College, Chengalpet.

Mr. K. Yuvaraj Babu, Reader, Department of Anatomy introduced the speaker and the topic for the lecture to the august gathering of students and staffs of Saveetha Dental College.

Dr. C. S. Janaki was felicitated and presented with gifts by Mrs. M. S. Thenmozhi, Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy.

In her lucid lecture Dr. C. S. Janaki discussed elaborately about the basic anatomy of Thyroid gland, its coverings, relations and development. Each anatomical feature of Thyroid gland was connected and correlated with applied and clinical anatomy. The Speaker gave a special emphasis to the clinical conditions of basic anatomy and developmental anomalies with lots of Dental applications and correlations.

Dr. M. Karthik Ganesh, Senior Lecturer, Department of Anatomy delivered the Vote of Thanks.

 
 

“Demystifying Cleft" - 02.05.2018

Department of Anatomy, Saveetha Dental College has organized a CDE program on “Demystifying Cleft” for I year BDS students in Anatomy Lecture Hall on 2nd May 2018 at 10.00am. The Speaker for the Guest lecture was Dr. S. Maithreyi, MS (General Surgery),   M.Ch. (Plastic Surgery), Assistant Professor, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre, Porur, Chennai.

The CDE program started in an unusual way, where the Speaker started her presentation before the inaugural address by the Department, as she commenced the session in a friendly approach. The lecture was more like an interactive session and the students were questioned on basic anatomy and various developmental aspects of palate. She then clearly gave an overview of anatomy and development of palate. She also discussed the developmental anomalies of palate and showed videos on corrective surgeries of cleft lip and cleft palate. The students enjoyed the seminar as they actively participated in discussion and diagnosing the different kinds of cleft lip and cleft palate conditions by identifying various photographs in the presentation.

At the end of the seminar the Speaker gifted the students with chocolates who came out with spontaneous answers during the lecture session.

Dr. S. Maithreyi was felicitated and presented with gifts by Mrs. M. S. Thenmozhi, Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy.

 
 

“Genetic Influences in Sport & Physical Performance” - 22.09.2018

Department of Anatomy, Saveetha Dental College has organized a Guest Lecture entitled “Genetic Influences in Sport & Physical Performance” for I year BDS students on 22nd September 2018 at 12.00pm. The Speaker for the Guest lecture was Dr. B. Anandan, Assistant Professor, Department of Genetics, Dr. ALM Post Graduate Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Madras, Chennai.

Dr Ganesh Lakshmanan, Senior Lecturer, Department of anatomy, gave the welcome address and introduced the speaker to the students. As the CDE program lecture started, the speaker put forth a volley of questions on heredity, genetics and sports to the students. The students started interacting by answering those questions.    Dr.Anadan went on explaining, the endurance versus strength training in sports. Later he introduced different genes and their mutations responsible for various enhanced sports performances. He also pointed on certain unfavorable mutations for sports and physical performances. He cited the geographical advantage in certain sports and their genetic reason behind that. Finally he concluded with the concepts of genetic screening and genetic doping. Overall it was a very informative lecture on an innovative topic and the students actively participated in discussions during and after the lecture.

 Dr. B. Anandan was felicitated and presented with gifts by Mrs. M. S. Thenmozhi, Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy. Mrs S. Sangeetha, from Department of Anatomy, gave the Vote of Thanks.

 
 

““Neurobiology of Addiction” - 27.10.2018

Department of Anatomy, Saveetha Dental College has organized a Guest Lecture entitled “Neurobiology of Addiction” for I year BDS students on 27th October 2018 at 12.00pm. The Speaker for the Guest lecture was Dr. Yogesh Kanna Sathyamoorthy, Assistant Professor of Neuroscience, Christ University, Bangalore.

Dr. M. Karthik Ganesh, Senior Lecturer, Department of Anatomy, gave the welcome address and introduced the speaker to the gatherings. The lecture started and the speaker gave the basic introduction on the neurobiology of addiction for First year BDS students. The speaker addressed the future dentists whose life’s work is to deal with a repertoire of patients, patients with a varying history of substance abuse. The session had a slow start as usual and then picked up the pace. Students were enthusiastically listening and involved in the discussion. The lecture also dealt with stress and coping mechanism and stress in an integral component in any dental college student. The reason why students can impulsive was dealt in the lecture and it brought a big smile to teachers and students as well.  It is surprising to see that, a few students already had some knowledge about what the speaker was lecturing and hence it made more and more sense to them. He gave a thorough neurobiological mechanism and pathway of brain by the impact of various addictive habits which bypasses and suppresses the routine regular neuronal circuitry of brain function. He also quoted various day-to-day student life activities of addictive behaviours in the present scenario of adolescent age. On the whole, the speaker mentioned as it was a pleasant experience for him to talk to a bunch of enthusiastic budding dental surgeons.

“Genetics of Sex Development and Developmental Sexual Disorders” - 08.02.2019

Department of Anatomy, Saveetha Dental College has organized CDE program entitled “Genetics of Sex Development and Developmental Sexual Disorders” for I year BDS students on 08th February 2019 at 11.00 am. The speaker was Dr. Dinesh Kumar. K, Assistant Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur. The lecture commenced with the felicitation of the guest speaker by Mrs. M. S. Thenmozhi, HOD and Faculty members of the department.

Dr. Dinesh Premavathy, Lecturer, Department of Anatomy, gave the welcome address and introduced the speaker to the audiences. Then the program continued with speaker’s lecture. The speaker discussed and briefed about the topics on embryological aspects, genes involved in determination of the sex by adding scientific features and historical characters. His lucid way of presentation was explained how sex of an individual is determined by genes, hormones, brain, etc. It was very interesting that the speaker discussed about brain sex and mechanism behind it. Finally the speaker discussed about case reports pertaining to the topic, the session ends with an interaction. Overall the session was very informative and new to the audience.

“Congenital Anomalies of Head & Neck” - 16.02.2019

Department of Anatomy, Saveetha Dental College has organized a CDE program on the topic “Congenital Anomalies of Head & Neck” for the first year BDS students on 12th February, 2019 at 12.00pm, in Decennial Hall, Saveetha Dental College. The speaker of the event was Dr. M. Haripriya, MBBS., MD., Associate Professor, Department of Anatomy, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai.

The program commenced with the warm welcome address by Mrs. M.S. Thenmozhi, Professor & Head, Department of Anatomy. Dr. M. Karthik Ganesh, Senior Lecturer, Department of Anatomy, introduced the speaker to the august gathering. The speaker took the stage and grabbed the attention of the audience completely for the next forty five minutes. The speaker categorized the topic, “Congenital Anomalies of Head & Neck” on three sub-headings, such as the developmental anatomy of head and neck, structures derived from each pharyngeal arches and pouches and the associated congenital deformities. She also briefed on various teratogens and related genetic factors. Since, the topic was interesting, the students listened and observed keenly about the various concepts explained by the guest speaker. She also showed various images on deformed fetuses with developmental defects/syndromes and described about the related genes involved in it. To sum up the lecture was very informative and useful for the students.

At the end, the Guest Speaker distributed the prizes to the toppers in the subjects, for the Weekly Test conducted. The speaker was felicitated by Mrs. M.S. Thenmozhi, HOD and other faculty members of the department. Dr. Dinesh Premavathy, Lecturer, Department of Anatomy delivered the Vote of Thanks.

 

“Recent trends in the treatment and research of Alzheimer’s disease” - 19.03.2019

The Department of Anatomy, Saveetha Dental College organized a CDE on “Recent trends in the treatment and research of Alzheimer’s disease”on 19.03.2019, Tuesday from 11 AM to 12 Noon. Dr. Senthil Kumar, Senior Research Assistant, Mr. and Mrs. Ko Chi Ming Centre for Parkinson’s Disease Research, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong, who is also an Adjunct Professor of SIMATS, was the resource person for the day. Dr.Ganesh Lakshmanan, Sr Lecturer, Department of Anatomy, introduced the speaker to the gathering.

The speaker discussed on the disease burden of Alzheimer’s disease on aging population, the economic burden of such diseases on developing nations. Then he briefed about the conventional treatment strategies and emphasized on new drug discoveries from traditional and alternative medicines. He also shared his experience in working on mice models using Chinese medicines. Mrs.Thenmozhi M.S, Head , Department of Anatomy, felicitated the Speaker and Dr.Dinesh Premavathy, Sr.Lecturer, delivered the vote of thanks.
